About the workshops

The workshops are open to all – the community of Parihaka, Taranaki locals and residency artists. Come along an nurture your interest in creativity. These workshops are utterly unique.

To register for a workshop, email ian dot clothier at intercreate dot org (without any spaces).

Go to Te Niho on the 4th and 5th, in the first instance. It is on the left side of the main road in, and is opposite a large open area used for car parking which is on the right. If you get to a fork in the road you have gone too far.

Look for a sign with SCANZ2018 He Hohourongo Peace, Water, Power written on it.

Sunday 4th Feb
10am Flow with Maata Wharehoka, Andrew Hornblow and Sonja van Kirkhoff.
This workshop brings together traditional understandings of wai, water, flow and river health; it involves measuring the water itself; and then making guided creative projects resulting from the discussion and korero.
12noon Lunch (BYO, including something to drink).
1pm Flow with Maata Wharehoka, Andrew Hornblow and Sonja van Kirkhoff.
4pm Finish for day.
Monday 5th Feb
10am Flow with Maata Wharehoka, Andrew Hornblow and Sonja van Kirkhoff.
12noon Lunch (BYO, including something to drink).
1pm A. Carving small stones with Glen Skipper.
B. Being creative with digital cameras with Stephen Boothe – upcycling inexpensive cameras and creating meaningful images.
C. Solar energy workshop with Allan Giddy.
4pm or after Workshops finish at the appropriate time. Projects can be continued to be worked on if the participants wish, over the days following.
Friday 9th Feb and Saturday 10th
10am – 4pm
any time
Ava Werner art making workshop (continues both days, participate at any time making postcard sized images using drawing, paint, images, texture and colour). Some materials provided, and people can bring their own.

Timing

Saturday February 3rd 
Residency commences. Orientation at Parihaka, prep for workshops.

Sunday February 4th
First day of workshops at Parihaka. All welcome.

Monday February 5th
Second day of workshops at Parihaka. All welcome.

Sunday February 11th
Hui out of town participants arrive in New Plymouth (so that they can attend the morning powhiri the next day). Nighttime light works viewed if applicable.

Monday February 12th
Morning session at Parihaka commencing 9.30-10am. Keynotes and presentations.

Lunch

Afternoon session – tour of artworks and artist presentations.  Keynotes and presentations.

Leonardo/ISAST 50th presentations and celebration with Roger Malina live from Texas.
