Stories

The SCANZ 2011: Eco sapiens symposium will be an event involving individuals from a number of different worlds. In a sharing of intersecting explorations we aim to facilitate connections, and extend perspectives on ourselves and our ecologies. Allowing the emergence of new and inventive ways of approaching the issues we are facing.

From two open calls, a number of inspiring international projects have been selected, from pollinating frocks to speaking rivers to ruminations on martian landscapes, and experimentations with techno-bio symbiotic relationships. We are now in the process of finding the final pieces for the organising of participation, installation and the local connections points for these projects.

For the 2011 SCANZ event, we have been working towards the idea of feeding inspiring ideas into the already existing eco-creative energies of the communities local to the event. Hence this year’s residency participants include a range of individuals with inspiring ideas, and the projects include many fun and creative public workshops for people to get involved with.

Eco sapiens
Extinction or adaptation? Evolution or Revolution? What are we facing? The complexity and urgency of the crises of today calls for us to engage together in new ways. Deep shifts in our consciousness may be required for long-term cultural changes to occur.
